Schools and Colleges

We offer a variety of services into nurseries, schools and colleges, both as one-off and regular interventions. The Speech Clinic delivers Speech and Language Therapy sessions in a variety of nurseries, schools and special educational settings, offering therapy to individual students, group sessions and training/support to staff. Individual children can be brought to the clinic for therapy sessions by their families or sessions can be carried out within the school.

School-Based Sessions

The benefit of school-based sessions is the opportunity to work within the classroom alongside the child. This allows for training the child to attend to the teacher, decode instructions and participate maximally within the classroom. There are also multiple opportunities for liaison with Class Teachers, Learning Support Assistants and the SENCO. When a school has multiple children requiring Speech and Language Therapy, it is preferable to arrange a regular, weekly session, so that children can be assessed and provided with therapy within the school. In this way, the therapist becomes part of the school environment and is able to feed into planning meetings and reviews. This school-based provision is also offered for children being funded by the Local Education Authority.

Our Speech and Language Therapists are able to attend schools for staff training as part of INSET days or in response to a particular child’s needs. INSET training covers communication difficulties and their remediation, provision for a speech, language or communication impaired child within the classroom and general strategies to develop skills, such as speech sounds, vocabulary and grammatical language. We can also provide training focusing upon best practice for particular diagnoses, such as Down Syndrome, Autism Spectrum Disorder, stammering or selective mutism. If your school is interested in school-based Speech and Language Therapy sessions then please contact us to discuss options. We are able to discount our hourly rate for weekly bookings so that schools can benefit from intensive therapy input.
